Challenge #6: Vertical Landscape

September 5 – October 4, 2017

Class Description

Master Class Concepts: Challenge #6
Vertical Landscape

During this 5 week session, we will focus on the history of the scroll and Asian woodblock prints that highly influenced Impressionist painters. The vertical scroll, wood block prints, and Asian culture taught us that paintings could be read from top to bottom and bottom to top.  This challenged traditional Renaissance space and opened the door for different ways of representing pictorial space in art. We will create two 12x24 canvas using landscape photo reference from difference references.  If you are seeking to better understand where you are as a painter, you have to understand your place in art history and this is the class for you.
