Art Classes

Welcome to Butler Studio

If you are interested in taking art classes with us, you may be a hobbyist, a beginner, intermediate, advanced or professional artist. It is perfectly fine to be on any of these levels and to move or not move out of your level. We work hard to offer something for every level of painter.

This is how we typically recognize the different levels of student development:

  1. Hobbyist is one who likes to work on a craft and enjoys the occasional session of art. They may try their hand at many different mediums and enjoy painting within a class environment.
  2. A Beginner painter is one who wants to learn how to paint. They may have never tried it before or they may have taken a few classes. They are learning the basics of painting and are willing to learn the basics.
  3. An Intermediate painter is one who is working on gaining a level of skills within beginner classes and are ready for more instruction and degree of difficulty.  They may be self-motivated and paint outside of class.
  4. An Advanced painter knows how to paint and is working on refining their skills. They are self – motivated and focused on developing their voice and skills with passion. They are routinely painting outside of class in groups and working within a series or body of work.
  5. A Professional artist uses their skills and talent to make their living in art. They have a process, are using their voice and know what they want to say and how to say it. They are constantly growing and developing. They are painting within a series and developing their portfolio for themselves and gallery representation.
